Mechanics and electronics used to be strictly separate careers. The essence of modern technologies however is to combine the two into a new discipline called electromechanics or mechatronics.
Electromechanical systems play a major role in the construction of machinery, plants and appliances, so that qualified personnel need to have a firm grasp of both disciplines.
Higher-level technical schools and universities already provide training courses in mechatronics. At skilled worker level, training in mechatronics has hitherto not been provided, so that the subject has now been introduced as a three-year apprenticeship. Mechatronical machinists process mechanical, electrical and electronic components and assemble them into mechatronical systems.
