The Service and Installation Professional
Machine fitters are employed to service, repair, install and commission machinery and plant. In the 3 1/2-year apprenticeship, you will learn to look for and remedy faults and defects following breakdowns, swap faulty machine parts and components and where necessary produce replacement parts yourself.
Machine fitters service and repair for example production lines, conveyor belts and systems, lifts, lifting and transport equipment, etc.
As machine fitter you will work in industrial and commercial enterprises in all industries alongside professional colleagues and other skilled and unskilled personnel.
Principal Activities and Duties
- Assembling, installing, testing and commissioning machinery and plant
- Assembling and connecting up electro-technical, pneumatic and hydraulic components
- Manufacturing spare parts and components
- Using metalworking processes such as drilling, turning, milling, grinding, etc.
- Using various welding techniques such as gas-welding, arc welding, shielded arc welding
- Programming and operating CNC machine tools
- Fitting replacement parts and machine components, regulating functions
- Carrying out test operations
- Finding, localizing and eliminating defects and disruptions in machinery and installations
- Complying with safety regulations and quality standards
- Carrying out maintenance and servicing operations on machinery and production installations
