LLOYD Shoes to get a step up on distribution with TGW

12/20/2011

When a company has spent more than 120 years perfecting the art of designing and manufacturing high quality shoes, you can be sure they’ll take the same approach to detail and excellence when it comes to their logistics. LLOYD Shoes GmbH is a German-based manufacturer of men’s and women’s shoes. Founded in 1888 as H.F. Meyer Schuhfabrik, LLOYD has a long-standing reputation for producing premium shoes, unique in terms of quality, fit and design. LLOYD shoes are unmistakable thanks to their trademark red stripe that runs across the heel of their shoes.

TGW, a leading material handling equipment and integrated logistics solutions provider, announced that LLOYD has selected TGW to provide a complete conveyor and storage automated warehouse solution for a new distribution facility, located at the company’s Sulingen (Lower Saxony, Germany), headquarters.

The centerpiece of the new LLOYD facility will be a 15 meter high automated mini-load warehouse with five aisles and a storage capacity of 50,000 cartons. “TGW’s triple-deep carton storage concept for LLOYD’s carton sizes ranging from 400x300mm to 700x700mm optimizes the storage conditions in each aisle and leads to highest throughput rates,” said Manfred Buschmeier, Head of Logistics at LLOYD.

Quality and service has been LLOYD’s philosophy since 1888. LLOYD saw this same level of commitment in TGW and was among the reasons the company selected TGW as the systems integrator for the new facility. “The combination of executing quality, technical maturity, planned reserve capacities at all parts of the installation, and intelligent controls and IT levels convinced us that TGW’s components would fit ideally to our internal WMS software,” added Buschmeier. “That is why we decided for TGW to build our logistics solution. The IT includes an efficient and demand-oriented switch-off mechanism. By permanently evaluating current orders and resulting workloads for workstations, picking stations and implemented technologies, the system optimizes the overall efficiency as well as the personnel placement of our new automated solution.”
