We are seeking a Lead Multi-Skilled Engineer to join an existing client site based in Cranford, Hounslow. This is one of three third automated distribution centres in the UK for our client (a leading supermarket chain) utilising TGW’s automated solution which includes tote conveyors, spiralveyors, automated picking stations and the high-speed storage and retrieval shuttles to support their home delivery service.
Earlier this year, we have adopted a new model and team structure to help meet new objectives and growing demand from the client’s customer base. As a result, the team has TGW Residential Engineering team has grown from 10 to 14 which means that on any one shift, there will always be three TGW Residential Engineers on shift – a Lead Multi-Skilled Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer and Technician.
What does this mean for you? Well, you’ll act as the most senior Engineer on your shift and a key escalation point for your team. You’ll have a good level of autonomy when resolving issues, liaising with the client’s operations team, and coordinating any other third parties on-site. As you will be representing TGW on site, you will also play a pivotal role in building the relationship with the client.
You’ll work closely with the TGW Site Manager in helping to develop your team, helping to identify training needs and coordinating the shift work each day as well as critical breakdowns/faults.
As demand is increasing with the client’s customer base, you’ll also be heavily involved with continuous improvement activities across the automated solution to ensure that it operates at maximum efficiency with minimal downtime.

12-hour shifts working 7-7 (7am-7pm days and 7pm-7am nights) on a Panama shift pattern (two consecutive shifts on, two off, three consecutive shifts on, two off, two consecutive shifts on, three off).
You’ll be an experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer with a track record of working in an automated warehouse environment. You will have a hybrid electrical and mechanical background, with a good knowledge of automated equipment, and able to carry out fault-finding on panels and PLCs (e.g. Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, OMRON, etc.). In addition, you’ll have experience of coordinating or training more junior Engineers/Technicians. It would also be beneficial if you have working experience with software such as CMMS, SCADA and/or HMI.
- Minimum NVQ Level 3 / City and Guilds (or equivalent) in an electrical or mechanical engineering
- Electrical qualification or completion of an electrical apprenticeship
- PLC fault-finding experience (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, OMRON, etc.)
- Automated warehouse experience (materials handling sites preferred)
- Experience in managing small teams
- Excellent communication skills and customer focus
- Ability to work in a time critical environment
- Strong IT literacy.
- FMCG or Food/Drink Manufacturing sector experience.
- Experience with CMMS and SCADA
