Apprentice - Junior Commissioning Engineer

During this 4 year apprenticeship, you will be learning the skills required to become a Junior Commissioning Engineer with the long term goal of becoming a fully trained Engineer.  The apprenticeship will provide you with a fully funded, nationally recognised qualification of a Level 3 Diploma in AME (Advanced Manufacturing Engineering) and a BTEC level 3 Diploma in Engineering.

As an Apprentice, you will spend the first 42 weeks working full time in a training environment allowing you to gain the foundational skills required. In year 2 & 3 you spend 1 day per week in the classroom and 4 days per week working alongside fully qualified engineers supporting our clients. On a daily basis, you will gain knowledge of the job, our equipment and business and have the chance to put into practice the theory you have learnt in the classroom.

Main Responsibilities

The Junior Commissioning Engineer is a key member of the TGW NE Controls Team and is responsible for the commissioning of Level 1 PLC control systems for our automated materials handling solutions and plays a pivotal role in making sure the new site is ready to go live.

By the end of your apprenticeship, you will have the skills needed to support and assist in the provision of:

- Actively working with the Commissioning Engineers in testing system modules as required

- Actively working with the Team Leader Controls Services to plan tasks and ensure the PLC area being commissioned adheres to project schedule

- Identifying and managing the rectification of any hardware and electrical faults

- Ensuring electrical installations meet the required TGW standards

- Completing all required commissioning documentation to the required standard

Key Responsibilities

- Undertake engineering training as directed by the business

- Attend our training partner’s facilities to undertake Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) training and maintain a portfolio of work

- Work in a safe manner and follow all health & safety requirements including Risk Assessment, Safe System of Work and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health requirements

- Maintain and submit an accurate weekly timesheet

- Develop knowledge of TGW, its departments and products

- Have visibility and working knowledge of the TGW cultural charter

- Be responsible for own travel to and from site

- Actively engage with your mentor

- Whilst on site, carry out work as directed by the resident lead engineer.

About You

We are seeking applications from candidates who have 5 x GCSEs (or equivalent). Grades must be A*-C / 9-5 for Maths and A*-C / 9-4 for English, Science and two other subjects. Level 2 PEO would be desirable.

You will need a full driving license and your own transport due to the nature of the role.
