TGW Logistics showcases its latest automation innovations at Spain’s leading logistics trade fair
(Barcelona, November 2, 2026) TGW Logistics will attend Logistics & Automation Madrid on November 11 and 12 with an automation offering specifically tailored to sectors such as furniture and DIY, which must handle products with widely varying sizes and weights. At stand 4E32, located in Hall 4 of IFEMA Madrid, the intralogistics specialist will demonstrate how different technologies can be combined within a single logistics center to manage this diversity of goods, synchronize their flows, and streamline order consolidation.
"Warehouse automation in the furniture and DIY sectors is unique because a single order can include items as different as a pack of screws, a lamp, a door or a wardrobe. These products differ in weight, dimensions, storage requirements and handling methods, yet they must ultimately be consolidated into a single shipment. Solving this complexity is one of the major logistics challenges facing these industries". explains Albert Vidal, CEO of TGW Logistics South Europe.
To address this challenge, the company develops solutions that combine different storage, transport and order fulfilment systems according to the characteristics of each product. These technologies are integrated into a single operation and coordinated through WERX, TGW Logistics’ intralogistics software suite. This enables products to follow different routes within the warehouse before converging in the consolidation and dispatch processes.
TGW Logistics will arrive at Logistics & Automation Madrid with extensive experience gained from projects for leading furniture and DIY companies such as Kave and Leroy Merlin. In Spain, the company is currently developing an automated logistics center for Kave that will integrate three different storage areas and consolidate their flows into a single palletizing zone. In France, it has automated Leroy Merlin’s logistics center, capable of handling up to 70,000 order lines per day and incorporating robotic solutions for managing heavy and bulky products.
The growth of e-commerce is transforming furniture and DIY logistics
The expansion of e-commerce is creating new requirements for logistics operations in these sectors, which must balance individual order fulfilment with store replenishment and distribution to professional customers.
Online sales already account for more than 23% of the value of furniture, lighting and home goods sales in Spain, according to data from the DBK Sector Observatory. In the DIY sector, the same observatory identifies the growth of the digital channel as one of the factors driving the expansion of large specialist retailers. This trend is also reflected in the performance of leading operators such as Leroy Merlin, whose distance sales in Spain increased by 25% in 2025.
"Preparing a shipment for an online customer requires a very different operation from replenishing a retail store, even though both must be handled from the same warehouse. Each type of order requires a different fulfilment process and has its own delivery deadlines. Ensuring that both operations coexist efficiently, without one delaying the other, is at the heart of our automation approach for these sectors," adds Albert Vidal, CEO of TGW Logistics South Europe.
