Mega-project for online retailer Galaxus

  • A powerful combination of shuttle system, automated mini-load warehouse and pocket sorter will shorten throughput times and accelerate delivery.
  • TGW Logistics prevailed in a multi-step awarding process due to its expertise in large projects and its unique setup as a foundation-owned company.
  • The showcase project for the online specialist will celebrate its go-live in 2027.

(Marchtrenk, Austria, March 3, 2026) TGW Logistics is building a fulfillment center for the eCommerce market leader Galaxus in the town of Neuenburg am Rhein in Germany. The highly-automated combination of shuttle system, automated mini-load warehouse and pocket sorter will supply the existing warehouse in Wohlen, Switzerland, along with eCommerce customers in Switzerland and Germany. The showcase project will go live step by step starting in 2027 and is one of the largest orders in the 56-year history of TGW Logistics.

The roots of Digitec Galaxus AG stretch all the way back to 2001, when a group of friends laid the foundation for a European online retail success story. Today, the company is not only active in Switzerland and Liechtenstein but also in Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their assortment encompasses over ten million products, from electronics to do-it-yourself supplies to books. Digitec Galaxus, whose majority shareholder is the Migros Group, generated a revenue of 3.8 billion Swiss francs in 2025.

High-performance combination of shuttle, automated mini-load warehouse and pocket sorter

Galaxus has put its trust in the intralogistics expertise of TGW Logistics for its distribution center in Neuenburg. A 39-aisle shuttle system with more than 900,000 storage locations and an automated mini-load warehouse with 300,000 storage locations constitute the powerful heart of the system. Subsequently, a pocket sorter will handle sequencing of customer orders. Shipping cartons will be closed automatically before being moved to the goods out area and distributed among the truck routes.

After go-live, Lifetime Services specialists from TGW Logistics will work with the Galaxus team to keep the plant running reliably and at optimal performance.

Decades of expertise, unique setup as a foundation-owned company

"We are delighted that Galaxus has put its trust in TGW Logistics once again. A deciding factor in the awarding of the contract was the experience that we have in successfully implementing large projects," stresses Thomas Kretz, Managing Director at TGW Switzerland.

Martin Waldenberger, Chief Sales Officer of the Customer Unit Central Europe at TGW Logistics, adds: "As a foundation-owned company, TGW Logistics cannot be sold and is a reliable and stable partner. Two-thirds of its profits remain within the company. The other third goes to our owner, the TGW Future Private Foundation, which in turn uses at least 30 percent of that to support the charitable projects of TGW Future Wings."
