TGW Logistics opens new production hall

  • Over the past months, the intralogistics specialist has invested 100 million euros in the expansion of its headquarters; another 50 million will flow into an office building by the beginning of 2028.
  • Since ground was broken in the fall of 2024, a production hall and a highly automated storage system with 60,000 storage locations have come into being.
  • A 7,200 m² photovoltaic system ensures the supply of renewable energy.

(Marchtrenk, Austria, July 20, 2026) In July, TGW Logistics put a 16,000 m² production hall and a highly automated storage system into operation at its headquarters in Marchtrenk (Austria). By the first half of 2028, the existing office building will also be expanded to twice its size. With this large-scale investment of 150 million euros, the intralogistics specialist is laying the foundation for its planned growth in the coming years: TGW Logistics intends to double its revenue to two billion euros by 2030.

Marchtrenk and Wels are the two large production locations in TGW Logistics' international network. Here, 700 specialists manufacture roughly 90 percent of the mechatronic modules that are then implemented in logistics centers around the world –from conveyor equipment to storage and retrieval machines to shuttle robots.

Reduced transport distances, optimized efficiency

The 240-meter-long and 63-meter-wide hall will be commissioned step by step, with all areas in operation by the end of August. Various production and logistics departments are moving to the new building from the TGW location in Wels and from facilities the company had been renting; this will reduce transport distances and significantly increase efficiency. "Putting this facility into operation will allow us to take performance to a new level both in manufacturing and in global spare parts supply for our customers," affirms Henry Puhl, Chief Executive Officer of TGW Logistics. "That is a central prerequisite for bringing about our planned growth. With our record order intake of 1.5 billion euros, we will soon reach full capacity."

International production network

Now that the new production hall is going into operation, the team in Wels will concentrate on the manufacture of the energy-efficient KingDrive conveyor equipment for totes and cartons. The innovative technology boasts gearless motorized rollers with an especially long service life and an energy consumption that is up to ten percent lower than that of other motorized roller variants.

All other intralogistics modules for international customer projects will be manufactured in Marchtrenk, including shuttle robots, storage and retrieval machines of heights up to 25 meters, conveyor equipment for pallets and roll cages, and control cabinets.

Shuttle warehouse as the high-performance core element

The highly automated storage system encompasses a high-bay warehouse with a capacity of 11,000 pallets along with a shuttle warehouse with 49,000 storage locations for totes – all powered by TGW technology. The system supplies not only production with the necessary components, but also customers around the world with spare parts for their plants. Mobile robots bring the parts to the assembly and picking workstations on picking carts and pallets; the TGW software WERX controls all processes.

What makes the 32-meter-high building so unusual is its clad rack structure design. The racks of the storage system double as the basic structure for the building's wall and ceiling elements. This construction principle yields significant advantages in terms of costs and realization time, but it also requires a great deal in terms of technical design and excellence.

Focusing on sustainability

Under optimal conditions, the 7,200 m² photovoltaic system on the roof of the halls can entirely cover production's energy requirements with its annual output of 1.2 GWh. Heat pumps and a borehole heat exchanger field handle heating and cooling, while automatic nighttime ventilation provides resource-efficient and environmentally friendly regulation of the temperature in the summertime.
