Generational Shift in Shuttle Warehousing: Stingray V4 Retires, a New Shuttle Takes Over
After more than a decade in service, with over 20,000 units produced and 200+ projects implemented worldwide, an era at TGW Logistics is coming to an end: the Stingray V4 is retiring. Its journey began in 2014 with the first installation at Coop in Schafisheim, Switzerland. Since then, it has been a reliable workhorse in many logistics centers – including major projects for Picnic in Oberhausen and Urban Outfitters in the US.
Production of the V4 will continue until summer 2025; after that, it will officially pass the baton to its successor.

Welcome to the Future: A New Shuttle Generation Takes the Stage
The new Stingray is more than just an upgrade – it’s a next-generation shuttle designed from the ground up, shaped by experience from V4 installations around the globe and driven by a clear goal: pushing performance, automation, and design to the next level.
Production of the new shuttle started in early 2025, and the first systems are already up and running. The journey began with a project for Albert Kerbl GmbH in Germany. In total, over 30 projects have already been sold, with four systems successfully implemented to date.
What makes the new Stingray stand out?
It’s faster, smarter, and more sustainable – a true leap forward in shuttle technology:
Key features of the new Stingray Shuttle
- Up to 1,500 load carriers per hour – making it the highest-performing shuttle on the market.
- Top speed of 5 m/s – that’s 20% faster than the V4, enabling even more efficient processes.
- Automated self-checks and “housekeeping” – the system detects and corrects tilted totes before they cause downtime.
- Reduced maintenance effort – up to 90% fewer manual interventions, saving both time and cost.
- Remote updates & health monitoring – always up to date, without the need for onsite service.
- Sustainable design with organic materials – thanks to its wooden cover, up to 100 tons of plastic will be saved by 2030, based on projected usage.
New Technology Under the Hood
The shuttle’s construction has been completely reengineered. The result: greater performance, increased durability, and easier maintenance – all in one system.
Key Technical Differences
- A more robust base frame ensures long-term stability, even under heavy loads.
- Independent telescopic drives enhance movement dynamics and reduce mechanical wear.
- The dual-motor drive system enables high-speed, precise travel.
- A new generation of sensors improves positioning accuracy and reliable load detection.
- The enhanced flap control system allows for better handling of totes, cartons and trays.
Seamless Integration – Even in Existing Systems
One key focus during development was backward compatibility: the new Stingray can operate in existing systems with Stingray V1 or V4 shuttles. This makes it an ideal solution for customers looking to gradually modernize or expand their facilities. In many cases, only minor adjustments are needed.
A Strong Finish – And a Promising Start
The Stingray V4 has set industry standards – with large-scale projects like Picnic in Oberhausen, where over 1,300 shuttles are in use. Its reliability and flexibility made it the go-to solution for a wide range of industries and temperature zones.
Now it’s time for the new Stingray to take over: faster, smarter, and more sustainable, ready to meet the demands of the coming years. It’s proof that technological progress and investment security can go hand in hand – a powerful combination for the future of intralogistics.
