People and Operations Team Leader - Picnic site (M/F/D)*

We are looking for a strong, people‑focused leader who has built solid leadership experience in another industry or working environment and is now ready to make a career switch into a highly automated, technical setting. A technical background is not required, however, a strong technical affinity and genuine curiosity for automation are essential.

To support your transition, we offer a personal development plan tailored to help you succeed in this technical environment. Through structured onboarding, on‑the‑job learning, and continuous coaching, you will receive the tools and guidance needed to grow confidently into the role.

You will join one of the most advanced automated distribution centres in the Netherlands (40,000 m²), located in Utrecht, where you can make an impact from day one. As a Team Leader, your strength lies in leading, motivating, and developing people. You foster a culture of ownership, consistent performance, and continuous improvement. With your clear communication and leadership skills, you drive collaboration and results together with our customer Picnic.

What you'll be handling:

  • As a Team Leader, you are the initiator, coordinator, and motivator of your maintenance team
  • You contribute to new developments and identify improvement opportunities across technical processes and installations
  • You prepare reports on the technical condition and performance of installations in line with contractual agreements and KPIs, using systems such as SCADA, TS, WCS, CMMS, and Microsoft Office
  • You coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities and ensure maintenance plans are executed effectively
  • You continuously work on improving system availability, reliability, and overall performance
  • You manage and coordinate failures and escalations within the automation systems
  • You ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times
  • You participate in daily operational and customer meetings
  • You work in a 5‑shift pattern and demonstrate flexibility in your availability
  • Shift pattern:
  • 2 morning shifts: 06:00 – 14:30
  • 2 afternoon shifts: 14:00 – 22:30
  • 2 night shifts: 22:00 – 06:30
  • 4 days off

What you'll need:

  • You are an experienced, people‑focused leader who enjoys motivating, coaching, and developing teams in an operational environment
  • You hold at least an MBO Level 3 diploma
  • You bring leadership experience, preferably gained in a structured, fast‑paced environment (technical exposure is a plus, but not required)
  • You demonstrate strong ownership, curiosity, and a continuous improvement mindset
  • You are motivated to learn about automation, engineering processes, and technical systems, and are open to additional training or education if needed
  • You perform well in a time‑critical, high‑pressure environment
  • You communicate confidently in Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing
  • You have experience managing customer and stakeholder relationships
  • You are able to translate operational objectives into clear priorities and actions for your team


What you'll receive:

  • A dynamic, open and informal working environment with pleasant colleagues
  • Immediate a permanent contract with a market conform salary (30% shift allowance because of the 5 shifts pattern) and 8% holiday allowance
  • Travel allowance € 0,23 per kilometre (max. 100 km per day)

  • 32 holidays plus extra age days in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement
