IT Database Administrator

The Database Administrator will be responsible for assisting the Senior DBA with the creation, management and support of Oracle databases, manage backup schedules, provide support for on-going projects and implement security procedures and policies.

WHAT YOU'LL BE HANDLING

Creation and maintenance of databases required across the business, this can include development, testing and production environments. Perform capacity planning to maintain the databases.  The DBA will also work closely with the Senior DBA and other System Administrators to manage other tools and applications that sit on the server(s). Installation and patching of new versions of Oracle and associated tools that access the Oracle databases. Responsible for the planning, implementation, and administration of backups and recovery of the Oracle databases, including the owning and management of the Disaster Recovery Process.
  • Support of new and ongoing projects for database support and development requirements.
  • Implement and maintain security processes and procedures for all Oracle databases.
  • On-going maintenance of databases to ensure optimum performance and maximise up-time.
  • Working with the Senior DBA, System Administrators and Developers to plan the installation of new releases/upgrades with minimal impact to the business.
  • Evaluation of new Oracle releases and third party products.
  • Provide technical support to the Customer Support IT and WCS support teams.
  • Troubleshooting/analysis of database related issues, applications and development tools.

What you'll need

Essential 
  • Proven experience working as an Oracle DBA (versions 12, 19)
  • Good knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Oracle and operating system performance monitoring and tuning
  • Installation and administration of Data Guard
  • Shell scripting and PL/SQL experience 
  • Installation, updating and patching of Oracle databases
  • Excellent knowledge of Oracle backup and recovery procedures (RMAN).
  • Good knowledge of Oracle security management.
  • Willing to participate in an on-call Rota
  • Willing to work extended shifts as required
  • Willing and able to occasionally travel throughout UK and Europe
Additional desirable experience
  • Strong physical database design
  • Unix/Linux administration experience
  • Good knowledge of Oracle resource management.
  • Experience in code migration, database changes, data and menus through project life cycle.
  • Obtained Oracle and other relevant certifications 
  • Familiarity with Golden Gate 
  • Experience with Mongo DB or MS SQL.
  • Previous experience of working in a client facing environment
  • VMware administration experience.
